James,

Your description of High Performance Innovation is interesting to me. As it's written it seems as if a system needs to be in place allowing co-workers to share and collaborate freely.

I've always thought of innovation as a process, but I think that your description is better. It is all encompassing in that it allows for bot structured and spontaneous innovation.

Thanks. :)

Chris,

You are absolutely correct. It is important that the infrastructure for innovation helps knowledge workers to share information and collaborate for knowledge and problem sharing. We must remember that the new concepts that underlie high-value innovation are synthesized from existing knowledge which may come from both outside and inside the enterprise.

Much attention is given these days to outside knowledge, particularly in the guise of open innovation. But, the issue of authority can not be overlooked. This is often a huge barrier to success in open innovation implementations. The authotity of internal knowledge typically is well known and its relevance tend to be very high. Thus, internal knowledge is a very valuable asset. Yet, it often does not get the attention it deserves.
