Based solely on my own (subjective) observations of clients I've worked with in both innovation and knowledge management over the years, I can safely say that I've seen an overwhelmingly common role that IT plays in each.

IT is to Innovation and Knowledge Management what a cheeseburger is to a lactose-intolerant Hindu.

A colleague of mine once told me - There is information and then there is knowledge.Companies generate a lot of information but rarely does anyone take the time to boil it down to actionable knowledge. All IT can do is provide the tools other company policies such as HR should also be put in place to enable knowledge creation.
