James - it's been far too long, we should debrief sometime soon.

Great article - including alternative points of view can certainly yield new insights, not to mention build morale (now more than ever).

Interestingly enough - and I'd be curious to hear your point of view - I've run into some TRIZ purists who would claim it is completely unnecessary to bring in "fresh blood" into design sessions, as TRIZ is very heavily based on reapplying what has worked in the past, the core principles, contradictions and other tools, and with an appropriate data/knowledge-set, who needs other people in the mix?

Have found a truly harsh divide on this - essentially the "individual empowerment" vs "group collaboration" argument.

And then of course there is the vast majority of the world that has never heard of TRIZ, and think it would take the fun out of innovation.

Any similar responses in your clients and prospects?

Best to the team,
Dan

Hi Dan,

It certainly has been too long. Hope all is well with you.

Re TRIZ world, there is certainly an "old guard" out there that seem to like keeping the TRIZ community closed. Sadly, this is partly to blame for the poor penetration of TRIZ in the US.

However, I see momentum in US TRIZ community is shifting to new generation of practitioners that are less parochial and want to encourage proliferation of TRIZ thinking. This is a good thing as old mind set was counterproductive in many respects.

I will be speaking at TRIZCON this year. So if you are going to be there, look me up.
