Jim, thanks, and I appreciate your insight on this. I agree with you that idea selection is almost inseparable from ideation. After a vigorous round of ideation, employees get very excited and WANT to go through a prioritization process. It is important to capitalize on their motivation. My main point is: when prioritizing, teams should use the same decision processes and tools as they do for other important business (and personal)decisions. Those methods work great. The innovation space doesn't own some "secret sauce" when it comes to prioritization.

Very well said, Drew. Assuming that innovation is somehow special and immune from the normal disciplines of good decision making it where people often go astray. Not only should people use their best decision making methods as you suggest, they should also remember to carry forward with the metrics of success for the business.
