Jim Belfiore

Jim, you are exactly right on this one.

Creativity is born in the internal spaces of self-confidence and competence (or, as one CEO once told me, attitude and aptitude).

Often, I have seen companies try to jump-start strategic innovation activity by building structures (hubs, centers, labs, etc), but the effect is short-lived if the investment stops at the structures. Innovators must know that they are empowered to innovate at any time.

That could be in a setting as breathtaking as the one pictured here, or in seat 37B stuck on a tarmac for 5 hours.
