Thanks for the comments on my post about ideation. I think what happens far too often is that ideation (or brainstorming) seems "fun", so many people jump in without good preparation and without any thought to what should happen next. To your point, companies treat innovation in almost the same manner, jumping in with little forethought and then wondering why the results weren't what they'd hoped for, when little work was done to change the culture, the process and the existing expectations.
